| This practice
includes advice on issues involving customs matters, import-export
procedures and proceedings, antitrust, tariffs, dumping
and unfair trade practices, from a local, regional and international
perspective, procedures before government authorities, such
as the Commerce Department and Foreign Relations Department,
to promptly process any authorizations, licenses, or permits
needed for a client's operations in Mexico. Within this
area, we take into account both the provisions of the World
Trade Organization and of the North American Free Trade
Agreement to ensure the protection of our client's rights
under Mexico's domestic legal framework. Furthermore, we
offer legal advice on in-bond (maquila), import, export,
and other incentive programs offered by the Mexican government
to develop national and international trade, including the
following services:
- Advice on duties and tariff classification
of goods, and on handling tariff-related disputes;
- Advice on the provisions of international
treaties in relation to the trade of goods and services,
including their valuation and country of origin requirements,
so as to obtain the best treatment and most preferential
tariff rates available;
- Defense of importers against unfair
trade competition claims, including antidumping and
compensatory duties;
- Advice on the applicability of Mexican
Official Standards on both domestic and imported goods;
- Import and export activities and
proceedings; and
- Advisory on NAFTA and related treaties.
